The Stipendium Hungaricum scholarship is Hungary's flagship international scholarship program, fully funded by the Hungarian government. It covers tuition fees, provides monthly stipend, and includes dormitory accommodation — making it one of the most generous scholarships available to Pakistani students.
What Does Stipendium Hungaricum Cover?
The scholarship covers full tuition fees at Hungarian public universities, monthly stipend of HUF 40,460–43,700 (approximately $110–$120 USD), free dormitory accommodation or a housing allowance, and health insurance. This means your total cost of studying in Hungary can be near zero if you're awarded the scholarship.
Eligibility Requirements
To apply for Stipendium Hungaricum from Pakistan, you must be a Pakistani national with a valid passport, have completed your previous degree (e.g., A-Levels, Intermediate, or Bachelor's), meet the academic requirements of your chosen university, and be under 35 years of age for most programs. PhD candidates may apply up to age 45.
Available Programs
The scholarship supports Bachelor's, Master's, and PhD programs at top Hungarian universities including Semmelweis University, University of Debrecen, Eötvös Loránd University (ELTE), Budapest University of Technology and Economics, and Corvinus University of Budapest. Programs are available in English and Hungarian across medicine, engineering, business, law, and humanities.
Application Timeline
Applications typically open in October–November each year and close in January–February. Results are announced in May–June with studies beginning in September. Pakistan's Higher Education Commission (HEC) coordinates the application process, so students must apply through both the Stipendium Hungaricum portal AND the HEC nomination system.
Required Documents
You'll need: scanned passport copy, academic transcripts and degree certificates, English language proficiency proof (IELTS 5.5–6.5 or equivalent), motivation letter (500–1000 words), two academic reference letters, medical certificate, and a filled application form. Some programs require additional portfolios or research proposals.
Tips to Get Selected

Apply to 3–5 universities to increase your chances. Make sure your grades are strong — GPA of 3.0+ significantly improves your odds. Contact UpFuture early in the process for personalized guidance on university selection and application review.
