Swedish Institute Scholarships: How to Apply from Pakistan in 2025

The SISGP is one of the most generous scholarships available — full tuition + travel + monthly stipend. Here's how to apply.

The Swedish Institute Study Grants (SISGP) is widely considered one of the most generous scholarships available for international students. It covers full tuition, provides SEK 11,000/month living allowance (~$1,050 USD), travel grant, and insurance. Here's how Pakistani students can successfully apply.

What SISGP Covers

The scholarship covers: full tuition at Swedish public universities, monthly stipend of SEK 11,000 (~$1,050), travel grant for one return flight, health insurance, and a leadership development component. Recipients also get access to the Swedish Institute's alumni network, which spans 190+ countries.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible, you must: apply for a qualifying Master's program in Sweden (check the SI scholarship database), have a bachelor's degree with strong academic results, demonstrate leadership experience and social impact potential, show a clear connection between your studies and development in your home country, and have at least 3,000 hours (roughly 1.5 years) of post-graduation work experience for most programs.

Priority Areas for Pakistani Applicants

The Swedish Institute prioritises applications that show how your studies will contribute to development in Pakistan. Priority fields include democracy, human rights, gender equality, environment, sustainability, and healthcare. If your career goals align with these areas, emphasize that connection strongly in your application.

The Application Process

Applications open in October–November each year. You must first apply for admission to a qualifying Master's program through the Swedish university admissions system (universityadmissions.se). Then apply separately for the SISGP scholarship by February. The scholarship is competitive — typically 350 grants are awarded from over 10,000 applications globally.

Writing Your Motivation Statement

The motivation statement is the most important part of your application. It should answer three questions: Why Sweden? Why this program? How will this degree help you create positive change in Pakistan? Be specific — mention professors, research groups, or specific courses. Generic statements are immediately eliminated. Quantify your leadership impact where possible.

Improving Your Chances

Apply to 2–3 Swedish universities to maximize your chances of admission. Choose programs at universities with strong SISGP award rates. Strengthen your application with documented community leadership, NGO work, or entrepreneurship. Start preparing your documents 3 months before the deadline.
